– “One Country, One People”

The Mareeba Indigenous Youth Connection to Culture (IYCC) program provides culturally safe and community-led activities that empower First Nations youth to develop a strong sense of identity, belonging, and pride in their culture. Working alongside Elders, families, community members, and partner organisations, the program creates opportunities for young people to reconnect with culture, strengthen community ties, and build positive futures.

The program objectives are to:

  • Strengthen the cultural identity, pride, and connection to Country for First Nations youths aged between 12-18 years
  • Foster positive relationships between young people, Elders, families, and community
  • Promote social and emotional wellbeing through culturally based activities
  • Support leadership development and youth participation in community decision-making
  • Encourage positive educational, training, and employment outcomes
  • Reduce risk factors associated with youth disengagement, self-harm, substance misuse, and involvement with the justice system.
