Youth Empowerment Program (YEP)

Youth Empowerment Program (YEP)

Support and empower youth for a better future!

The Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) is currently funded by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet up to 30 June 2019 and is the only program of its kind in the Kuranda region.

There are a proportion of youth aged between 12 – 25 years who are not attending school or employment in the Kuranda region. These youth are considered to be ‘at risk’ of anti-social behaviour or becoming long term unemployed due to school non-attendance.

YEP provides intensive support to local youth through referrals to appropriate services and the delivery of activities in partnership with local service providers that encourage families and community to support and empower youth for a better future.

Support and activities that target youth aged from 12 to 25 years include: referrals to services to help overcome identified barriers; regular meetings with local service providers to identify gaps in service provision and share resources; anger management workshops; nutrition; sexual health; camps; culture nights and walks; learner driver courses and a youth drop-in-centre.
